Australian scientists have launched a quantum random number generator for Web3 – Bits Media

Australian developers presented a quantum random number generator, which they plan to use in Web3 and metaverse games.

Researchers from the Australian National University, together with oracle provider AP13, launched the first quantum random number generator (QRNG) for games and Web3 wallets. Thanks to this company, working in the industry, will be able to access a secure and free random number generation system.

According to the statement, the system is capable of generating numbers using quantum mechanics, which ensures a truly random selection of numbers, which current systems cannot provide. Now there are several of them and they are used in gambling, sports, lotteries, sampling and competitions. However, the Web3 industry needs a secure system, independent from third parties, which will generate random numbers, The message says.

QRNG measures random oscillation phases and amplitudes of the electromagnetic field in a vacuum, to ensure unpredictability of numbers. The system currently has an API for 13 blockchains, Including Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Chain and others. Using the generator itself is free, however, users will have to pay a fee to use the API.

It is assumed, that QRNG will play an important role in Web3 games and metaverses, since games often use so-called “random”, to generate levels, probability of in-game item drops and events. Besides, the system will be useful for gambling on the blockchain and will generate more trust from players due to its protection from external influence.

Previously a specialist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sankar Das Sarma (Sankar Das Sarma) Published an article, in which he told, that quantum computers are not yet capable of hacking blockchain data, however, in the future this will be quite feasible.
