Bloomberg: Google Forms New Group for Blockchain Development – Bits Media

According to Bloomberg, Google is forming a new team, which will develop developments in the field of blockchain and “related technologies”. The group will be headed by Shivakumar Venkatamaran.

Bloomberg reports, that earlier Shivakumar Venkatamaran (Shivakumar Venkatamaran) held the post Vice President of Alphabet Inc for Technology. The group will work on blockchain and other “next generation technologies for distributed computing and data storage”. The team will enter the division, which is engaged in developments in the field of virtual and augmented reality.

As one of Google's sources told the publication, the blockchain project development team will be quite small compared to groups, working in other areas. It is worth noting, that Google has so far avoided blockchain. Although it offered several cloud solutions based on this technology, the company did not launch larger projects.

Other technology companies. such as Twitter and Meta, pay a lot of attention to distributed registry technology. Recall, that Meta is aggressively poaching employees from rival firms Apple and Microsoft to create the Metaverse.
