Ethereum Foundation stops supporting the Ropsten test network – Bits Media

Ethereum Foundation reports the imminent closure of the Ropsten test network and asks the developers to transfer their applications to the Goerli or Sepolia test networks.

According to the announcement in the official blog of Ethereum Foundation, Ropsten support will be discontinued, And the vast majority of the remaining validators will be disconnected with 15 by 31 December 2022 of the year:

“Over the past few months, infrastructure suppliers have gradually stopped supporting the network, And the level of participation of the validators was steadily reduced. Therefore, Ropsten will no longer be supported by client, Testing or infrastructure teams ".

Developer Ethereum Core Tim Beiko (Beiko team) confirmed the closure of the Ropsten test network and called on the developers' community to take a fate in discussing the approach to the future of all test networks of the Ethereum. for instance, express opinions and suggestions on target networks for steakers and developers, The end of the service life for test networks and much more.

The Ethereum Foundation team reminded, that next in line is the closure of the next test network, Rinkeby. It is no longer equivalent to the functionality of the copy of the main network of the Ethereum, does not support the merger and will not support future network updates.

However, the Rinkeby test network will continue to work until the middle 2023 of the year, To give users and application developers the opportunity to smoothly go to the Goerli or Sepolia network.

In June, the developers of the Ethereum reported
On the successful transition of the Ropsten test network to the Proof-OF-Stake consensus algorithm. As part of the transition of the test network, the Ropsten chain merged based on Proof-OF-WORK (PoW) and “signal chain” Beacon Chain, which works on Proof-OF-STAKE (PoS).
