FC Barcelona will launch its own cryptocurrency – Bits Media

The management of FC Barcelona announced plans to issue its own cryptocurrency to confront the clubs, owned by corporations and large investors.

Club President Joan Laporta spoke about this (John Laporta) at Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona. According to him, the club plans to launch several NFT collections in the near future, and is also working on a full-fledged entry into the cryptocurrency market. He stressed, that FC received many proposals for cooperation from various cryptocurrency companies, however, the club management rejected them, because he is going to create his own cryptocurrency.

“We are creating our own metaverse, Therefore, we rejected all offers and do not want to be associated with any cryptocurrency company. We create our own cryptocurrency, we are different from the majority - we do not have large corporations or foreign investors behind us, what makes us innovative, brave and gives new ideas. This forces us to be one step ahead in various areas, related to sports", – Laporta emphasized.

The Barcelona President also noted, what could you tell us more about the club's plans?, but for now you need to be careful. At the same time, players’ contracts already contain sections, dedicated to the metaverse and collectible tokens. Recall, that Barcelona already has its own fan token, Barca Fan Token (BAR). Now its capitalization is $29.4 million. The token was released on the Socios platform at the beginning 2020 of the year.
