The “genius of fakes” of famous paintings Wolfgang Beltracchi will exhibit his works in the form of NFTs – Bits Media

On the NFT market you can buy not only digitized copies of famous works of art, but also copies of copies. Wolfgang Beltracchi will start selling his “works” in a few weeks as NFTs.

Forgery genius Wolfgang Beltracchi (Wolfgang Beltracchi) created a project
The Greats. In 2010, Beltracchi was arrested for counterfeiting paintings on $21 million and received 4 year of imprisonment. Now the "artist" has turned to the NFT space.

He will release a collection of 4 608 NFT on the Ethereum blockchain. Beltracchi “tokenizes” the most expensive painting in the world, “Savior of the World,” in images from different eras. For this he used different styles: Renaissance, postimpressionism, surrealism, Cubism, pop art, "Factory Art" and others.

“The NFT market offers artists a platform for marketing and frees them from traditional market mechanisms.”, - he said.

Not all NFTs are currently listed on The Greats website, Details are promised to be revealed after the start of sales. Buyers won't know in advance, which parts of the NFT painting they will receive. According to the artist's representative, the use of the VRF Chainlink standard guarantees, that NFTs will not be used by anyone else. Besides, The project integrates the “The Graph” tool for creating infographics. Users will be able to see real-time token sales data.

"That, what do you see on the canvas, - not the only important thing. All around: sales mechanism, records about each owner,  the technical side of the process is also part of art,” writes Beltracchi.

Works of art and other valuable items in NFT format are already often sold for hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars.. In June, Christie's auction house sold an NFT of the original World Wide Web source code for $5.4 million. And in September there was an auction for 202 token from the “bored monkeys” collection on $24 million.
