Iran allowed the use of cryptocurrencies to pay for imports of goods

The Iranian government amended the legislation on the use of cryptocurrencies in the country, allowing them to use them to pay for imported goods.

The changes were proposed by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and the Iranian Ministry of Energy. Their initiative I received the support of the state. Now cryptocurrencies, legally mined in Iran, can only be exchanged in that case, If they are used for calculations for goods, imported from other countries.

Miners will directly provide the obtained cryptocurrency to the central bank in accordance with the established limits. Restrictions for each miner will be determined in accordance with the volume of preferential electricity, cryptocurrency involved for mining, and also with the rules, published by the Iranian Ministry of Energy.

The authorities of Iran believe, that the use of cryptocurrencies will allow the Central Bank to avoid restrictions, associated with American sanctions, which limit Iran's access to the dollar system.

Last year, the Iranian economic commission planned to establish special electricity tariffs for miners, And the Minister of Energy Iran Homayun Haeri (Homayoun Haeri) suggested not to subsidize electricity, used by miners of cryptocurrencies. In May, Iranian President Hassan Rukhani (Hassan Rouhani) He instructed the government to update the state strategy for the development of the mining industry, Having included digital assets in the current legislation on “currency smuggling”.

Recall, that last month, General Director of the Free Economic Zone Kish GOMA Hossein Mozaffari (Gholam hossein Mozaffari) Already offered to the Iranian government to pay with cryptocurrencies supplied cars.
