Kickstarter will launch a decentralized crowdfunding protocol on the Celo blockchain – Bits Media

The largest crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has announced plans to create a decentralized crowdfunding protocol based on Celo. Users will have access to the new platform automatically.

As reported in a Kickstarter blog article, for development a new company will be founded in the decentralized protocol. The protocol will be launched on the Celo blockchain in 2022 year, and users will automatically have access to all the benefits of decentralization. There are no plans to change the way users interact with the Kickstarter website..

Besides, a “governance laboratory” independent of both companies will be created to oversee the development of the protocol. The laboratory will publish research, share experiences and strive to develop management resources for society, participating in solutions to common problems and critical goals of good governance.

“We are now witnessing a critical moment for alternative governance models and believe, that this is a great opportunity. The laboratory will be led by Purpose Foundation co-founder Camille Canon (Camille Canon)», – Kickstarter co-founder Perry Chen said (Perry Chen) and CEO Aziz Hasan (Aziz Hasan).

Purpose Foundation is an American organization, creating and scaling alternative ownership and management models. Kickstarter management noted, that blockchain will give platform users ease of participation in crowdfunding, many opportunities for ecosystem development and effective participation in protocol governance.

“We chose Celo, open source and carbon negative platform. This is the best technology and a great community to build our protocol on. We are inspired by the thoughtful approach of the Celo ecosystem developers to create those technologies, that they want to see in the world", – noted in the article.

Recall, what else in 2018 year, the largest Russian platform for crowdfunding in the field of business and technology, Boomstarter, announced the creation of Boomstarter.Network based on the blockchain. The platform was actually launched, however, no particular success was reported.
