US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) officially announced a ban on the use of its logo when creating non-fungible tokens.
NASA states, that the management logo is known throughout the world too often used for commercial purposes, such as fashion branding.
Usually, US government images and video content are not copyrighted. However, NASA in its statement calls the creation of tokens with its symbols illegal:
“NFT is essentially digital property., which exists in a single copy and belongs to one person. We don't want, so that our content is used in this way. It is illegal to claim rights to our materials.".
At the same time, the space agency does not oppose the use of the logo, video content and media images, educational institutions and authors of educational materials.
Remarkably, that in the past NASA was indirectly involved in an NFT project called “mars4”, in which a detailed three-dimensional model of Mars was created using agency data.
IN 2020 year, two American technology companies developed blockchain-based software for NASA to improve communication between drones.
