Penza police found four underground miners – Bits Media

Law enforcement agencies of the Penza region reported, that four underground miners were discovered at once, who were cooperated and jointly stole electricity for the extraction of cryptocurrencies.

The detention was attended by employees of the department for combating organized criminal groups of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Penza region. Police in the city of Kuznetsk discovered five garages, in which mining equipment was installed. To pay less for electricity, Underground cryptocurrency miners modified metering devices.

Since January 2022 by May 2023 the years of the detainees illegally consumed more 243 thousand kW/h, Approve law enforcement agencies. The amount of damage, caused by a resource -supplying organization, exceeded 250000 rubles. The police confiscated 19 cryptocurrency production devices, 12 electricity meters and several devices for modifying counters.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Penza Region opened the case under paragraph "a" of the part 2 Articles 165 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Causing property damage in a large amount by preliminary conspiracy). Underground miners face up to five years in prison.
