The recent decline of the Optimism Project token has forced community members to consider exclusion from the next free address token distribution, who immediately after the first airdrop sold their assets.
Level 2 solution provider Optimism put to vote community question about excluding users from subsequent airdrops, who are involved in the fall of the OR project token. Optimism community member "0xJohn" came up with this suggestion after, how OP owners started selling it immediately after the first free distribution of tokens among 249 000 addresses.
"Users, sold OP tokens after the airdrop, shall be disqualified from participating in all future free token distributions. I've seen enough wallets, collecting OP and exchanging them on Uniswap, and these accounts do not play a constructive role in the management of Optimism.", – stated 0xJohn.
He admitted, that there is nothing wrong with maximizing profits, but added, that the activities of these addresses are “counterproductive” for the stated goals of the project. A community member listed four addresses, who dropped the entire airdrop, and one of them converted 32 421 OP в $45 894. 0xJohn called this deal “purely selfish with a loss for Optimism”.
He proposed excluding such accounts from future airdrops and making the list of wallets publicly available., who behave like this. More than 0xJohn's proposal has already been voted for 300 members of the Optimism community. The project was going to conduct another free distribution of tokens after the first airdrop, but against the backdrop of recent events, its implementation is now in question.
Sale of crypto assets, which were distributed free of charge among community addresses, – an unpleasant incident for the project, which may cause the token to fall. But this is not so serious compared to scammers, which, having received information about the airdrop, create wallets in the community, hoping to collect the maximum number of tokens (Sibyl attack).
Projects use special programs, to identify such patterns. for instance, Optimism conducted an operation to identify addresses before the free distribution of tokens, participating in the Sibyl attack, and removed them from the distribution list. but, he didn't foresee, that community members themselves can harm the protocol.
