Ubisoft will develop games on the blockchain – Bits Media

Leading computer gaming company Ubisoft plans to begin developing games on the blockchain with support for tokens and NFTs. Users will be able to earn money while playing.

The French developer is no stranger to blockchain gaming. Previously Ubisoft financed and supported several projects in this area, one of which was Animoca's REVV Motosports. This is an ecosystem of several games supported by the REVV token.

Looks like, now Ubisoft management has decided, that the company is ready to independently develop such games. As noted by the company's general director, Yves Guillemot (Ives Guillemot), Blockchain games should fit “organically” into the Ubisoft portfolio.

Ubisoft CFO Frederic Duguay (Frederick Duguet) fully supports the idea. According to him, partnership with such companies, as Animoca, gave Ubisoft a good understanding of, How blockchain could impact the video game industry. Ubisoft “should become one of the key players in this area”.

The introduction of blockchain will allow players to own in-game content and make a profit, however, no specific plans to launch games with NFT support have been announced yet. At the same time, Ubisoft owns the rights to extremely popular game series, including Assassins Creed, Far Cry и Prince of Persia.

In August, it was reported, that another video game giant Electronic Arts is planning to explore the possibilities of blockchain and NFTs. The company's division, EA Sports, is looking for specialists in the field of crypto assets and blockchain.
