Bavaria tests blockchain-based system for selling electricity

The PEBBLES platform based on the Blockchain -based platform for electricity trade is tested in Bavaria. The system was created with the participation of the technological giant Siemens.

Pebbles peer platform was presented in March 2018 of the year. Its development took part German energy supply company Allgäuer überlandwerk, operator of energy systems Allgäunetz, Siemens, Camptean University of Applied Sciences and the Institute of Applied Information Technologies of the Fraunhofer. The project also received the support of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy Germany.

PEBBLES developers reported, that with the help of this platform, energy companies will be able to directly sell electricity to local consumers without involving intermediaries and operators of energy systems. Besides, The platform will have the opportunity to purchase energy for electric vehicles. All information about the transactions will be recorded in the blockchain, and interested parties will be able to track it.

Note, that Siemens is working on the introduction of blockchain in the energy industry with 2018 of the year. Siemens has become a member of the Energy Web Foundation International Organization (EWF) to study and create solutions, optimizing production and energy consumption.

Last year, Toyota Motor Corporation Corporation began to test the system based on blockchain, allowing enterprises and private houses to sell electricity. The Japanese IT company Fujitsu also developed a platform for electricity exchange between organizations for stable energy supply in peak periods.
