Ukraine has banned the purchase of cryptocurrency for hryvnia – Bits Media

The National Bank of Ukraine prohibited citizens from using hryvnia to buy cryptocurrencies. You can use foreign currency, but up to the equivalent 100 000 UAH per month.

Restrictions are introduced on purchases not only on cryptocurrency exchanges, but also for P2P transactions. The Central Bank emphasizes, that all these measures are being taken to prevent the outflow of capital from the country, improving the foreign exchange market and reducing pressure on Ukraine’s gold and foreign exchange reserves.

NBU officials admit, that now citizens have an unprecedented need to use national payment cards abroad. However, it is necessary to ensure that “unproductive capital flight” is prohibited, including in the form of investments in cryptocurrencies.

“Transactions in quasi-currencies are mainly used to bypass the current restrictions of the National Bank, including for foreign investments, what is prohibited during martial law. Therefore, such transactions should be determined to be unproductive capital flight.", - says the official statement.

Recall, that in mid-March the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed
Law “On Virtual Assets”, which should regulate the circulation and use of cryptocurrencies in the country.
