Block completion in the Cardano blockchain has exceeded 94% – Bits Media

Cardano network developers have added support for smart contracts, which attracted new projects and increased the load on the network many times over - block occupancy exceeded 94%.

The network has been actively developing in the past year, but a significant increase in transaction volume happened just a few days ago. If at the beginning of January the block load did not exceed 50%, then by Monday, 24 january, it amounts to 94.49%.

The leap has occurred 14-16 january, immediately with 55.23% to 91.79%.

The block size on the Cardano network is currently 72 kilobyte. It was increased by 12.5% at the end of November, so that the blockchain can cope with the increased load after adding support for smart contracts. However, additional 8 kilobyte of data, it seems, could not fully satisfy the needs of developers from IOHK.

Now blocks contain all generated transactions. However, as the size is subsequently increased, transactions will be queued, and their processing should take longer. Each block, according to explorer.cardano.org, fits in average 40 transactions.
