Non-profit organization of lawyers insists on lifting the ban on hosting games using NFTs and cryptocurrencies on the Steam platform.
In October, the popular computer game distribution platform Steam updated its terms of use, banning any games with using NFTs, cryptocurrencies and other blockchain-based technologies. In this regard, the non-profit organization of lawyers “Fight for the Future”, protecting the digital rights of citizens, including in the field of cryptocurrencies, sent an open letter to Steam, in which he insists on lifting the ban.
“Your platform is the largest market for computer games, but what will happen to her, if you now refuse to host games on the blockchain using NFTs and cryptocurrencies? GameFi is a fast-growing and market-exciting gaming category, which should be in the Steam ecosystem. Please, Please consider changing your position on this issue and allowing games with NFTs to be hosted on the Steam platform.", - the letter says.
According to Fight for the Future lawyer Joe Thornton, this step is aimed at, to at least initiate negotiations with computer game developer Valve, owning the Steam platform. The main goal is to convince Steam to lift the ban on blockchain-based games. The Steam platform has not yet commented on the open letter.
Steam is very popular among computer game developers, but the negative policy towards blockchain games may give an advantage to its competitor, the Epic Games Store company, which continues to place such products on its site. According to a recent study by BGA, it's almost 50% cryptocurrency wallets are used in blockchain games.
