At the beginning of the year, the Dutch Central Bank issued requirements, according to which users of cryptocurrency exchanges must verify addresses for the withdrawal of digital assets. Now the requirements have been withdrawn.
According to the issues issued, Cryptocurrency exchanges could deduce users only on the "white list" addresses. To verify the address, a citizen of the country was supposed to provide a photo, to "prove", that this is his wallet. Cryptocurrency exchanges had to significantly tighten the rules to withdraw assets.
Among others, The requirements were followed by the Bitstamp site and the local Bitonic exchange. Moreover, the leadership of Bitonic was not with them according to. The company's lawyers filed a lawsuit with the court to cancel new rules. In their lawsuit, they emphasized, that “the verification of each address for each transaction does not have any practical meaning, and is also a serious violation of the right of our customers to privacy ".
In April, the judge of the District Court of Rotterdam agreed with the arguments of Bitonic lawyers and gave the Central Bank of the Netherlands six weeks to revise the rules. Now the regulator has decided, that the initial rules are “not fair enough” and canceled the requirements for the verification of the wallet. However, the regulator continues to demand an "adequate verification" of that, that the face, The withdrawing funds, is the recipient. For this, the Central Bank of the country has published an official leadership, according to which exchanges can choose a verification method.
Recall, that additional measures of checking users of cryptocurrency exchanges in the Netherlands were introduced last fall.
