Analytics company Expel reported an increase in cases of phishing attacks. Attackers are sending emails asking for bitcoins to be sent to help citizens of Ukraine.
Expel reported, that cybercriminals have recently begun to give out yourself for charities. They send mass malicious emails to people with the messages “Help save children in Ukraine”, “Donations for Ukraine” and “Help – Bitcoin”.
Clicking on a malicious link, the user ends up on fake websites of some organizations, and, if he enters his confidential data there, This information is being stolen by scammers.
Часто аферисты обращаются к людям, «маскируясь» под медицинских сотрудников, запрашивая криптовалюты для помощи больным и раненым детям. They claim, что способы, through which donations were previously accepted, now unavailable due to hostilities. Therefore, they are forced to seek “help” in other ways and send instructions to potential victims with instructions, how and to what address to send digital assets.
"Terrible, that attackers are trying to gain personal benefit from the crisis in Ukraine. We want, to let people know about scams, which may apply to them, if they want to financially help those in need", – warned Expel Director of International Operations John Hencinski (Jon Hencinski).
He said, that before sending any donations in cryptocurrencies, you need to check the wallet address and its transaction history using various blockchain explorers. Particular care should be taken with addresses with a short transaction history and small balance..
Recall, that recently the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed the law, regulating the circulation and use of cryptocurrencies in the country.
