The Governor of the Irkutsk Region will support the development of “civilized” mining in the region – Bits Media

Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev sees a solution to the energy issue with miners in the provision of separate areas and lines for cryptocurrency mining.

During the press conference, the Irkutsk governor
reported, what land plots offer for placement of data centers in the region. Igor Kobzev thinks, that mining companies must enter into contracts directly with electricity suppliers to connect to a leased line. According to the head of the Baikal region, this will reduce the load on the power grid and reduce the number of incidents, associated with power outages in settlements around the city, where intensive mining of digital currencies is carried out.

“We are ready to provide miners with sites for industrial mining. It can be done, For example, in Ust-Ilimsk. But this needs to be done in a civilized way, so that there are separate lines without taking into account the networks of settlements".

Last month, the governor of the Irkutsk region published a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak asking for assistance in recognizing mining as a business activity. According to him, Over the past year, electricity consumption by the population has increased by 159%. He blames the “gray” miners for this.

According to him, the problem is, that miners are not connected to a separate power line, and operate the lines, intended for household services. This leads to accidents and power outages. In addition to problems with electricity, miners have become a “headache” for the local population. IN 2019 year, residents of one of the streets of Irkutsk complained about constant noise, which is already going on 2 of the year. It came from a three-story building and came from a mining rig installed there.
