The US Department of Transportation has issued a tender to develop a blockchain-based solution to coordinate the actions of drivers in connection with the potential increase in problems with parking spaces.
This initiative was launched as part of the US Department of Transportation program on research of innovations in small business (SBIR). The document specifies, that tokenization will solve the issue of parking spaces, which becomes relevant as, How more employees are returning to work after restrictions are lifted, related to the COVID-19. The department specifies, that the use of incentives and tokens will ensure coordination of the movement of drivers.
“The new blockchain strategy will provide a dynamic approach to incentivize alternatives for drivers. for instance, road users will be able to use tokens, to reserve a parking space, or receive tokens for agreeing to use public transport", - The document says.
According to the statement of the Ministry, blockchain guarantees ecosystem users access to a reserved parking space or earned rewards. The ecosystem must provide secure decentralized management of tokens and guarantee the reliability of data. Blockchain will also provide the opportunity to use new gamification strategies as an additional incentive and will facilitate coordination and scaling of the system across multiple sites..
The Department emphasizes, that research in this area is at an early stage, and the amount of development funding has not yet been determined. In the near future, the Ministry will prepare a report on its vision for the mobile application proof of concept, through which tokens and incentives will be distributed. The document states, that subsequent phases will focus on the pilot program.
Recall, what in 2019 Kyiv authorities began to consider the benefits of accepting Bitcoin payments in the public transport system. The Pension Fund of Russia, together with Russian Railways OJSC, decided to use blockchain to determine preferential categories of citizens. IN 2020 year, the World Economic Forum prepared a report, according to which most blockchains cannot interact with each other, therefore, it is still too early to implement the technology at the corporate level.
