MetaMask developers warned about the dangers of storing data in Apple iCloud – Bits Media

ConsenSys Company, behind the popular cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask, sent out a warning to users about the dangers of storing data in Apple iCloud due to the possibility of phishing.

With Apple device default settings, including iPhone, iPad and Mac, save “password-protected MetaMask storage” in the iCloud cloud service. If attackers use phishing to gain access to the service and the password is not strong enough, then users risk losing all funds in their wallet.

“If you have enabled app data backup to iCloud, then your MetaMask storage is included in this list, password protected. If the password is not strong enough and someone uses phishing to obtain your data from iCloud, this could lead to theft of assets.", – write the wallet developers.

The cryptocurrency community reacted positively to ConsenSys' warning. Although some users recalled, that large funds and collectible tokens must be stored in a “cold wallet”, so that attackers cannot access it.

At the end of March, ESET specialists spoke about a sophisticated scheme for theft of cryptocurrencies from mobile wallets on smartphones with the most popular operating systems.
